Divide and Conquer

Most students, when they get a new piece, want to master the whole thing right away. If it’s really really super easy or if the song has a ton of repition, you probably could. But if it’s a full length concerto you’re after, it’s probably not a good idea.

The trick is to take sections of the piece and work on it for a few days(or weeks depending on the length or difficulty) and master it, then move on to the next section. In no time will you have all phrases flowing into a beautiful masterpiece.

This strategy obviously doesn’t apply only to music. It can apply to other aspects in life such as midterms. Rather that trying to study everything at once, work on one subject at a time. Soon you’ll finish with flying colors:)

Yes, it’s midterms week. Yes, I’m trying to preach to myself. =)

A Trip to San Diego

As many of you know, Andrew and I went to San Diego last weekend and I apologize for not blogging sooner. I had a lot of fun and I got to know him a lot better. I don’t have the memory card from the pictures so I can’t post any. So sorry.

Balboa Park? It was great. Downtown? Awesome. The food? Delicious. All that was  great, but what was even better, is seeing all the tourists. It’s fun watching Andrew pull out a map trying to find his way around. It’s fun having a stranger telling me facts about San Diego like he knew the place (He was from some other state, I forgot.) It’s fun listening to people say “I wanna go on the Coronado Bridge.” I mean seriously, it’s just like any other road, there’s just no shoulder lane.

And now it’s time to talk about what we’ve learned today… “And so what we have learned applies to our lives today, God has a lot to say in His Book. You see we know that God’s Word is for everyone, now that our song is done we’ll take a look.”

I’ve learned that Americans use a fork and a knife rather than a fork and a spoon.

I’ve learned the importance of having an umbrella and a raincoat, even in San Diego.

I’ve learned of another way to french tip my nails.

I’ve learned what stimulus checks are.

I’ve learned the importance of having a good testimony, especially on the internet.

I’ve learned that my friends love me, care for me, and want what’s best for me. I now understand why they do what they do and I appreciate them for it. I love them very much and I’m sorry for not calling them as often.

I’ve learned that it’s not always the guy you’re in a  relationship with, but where the relationship is headed that can be the problem.

Sorry if this was all dramatic and turns on the water works, but I felt like this all needed to be said. I’m hoping things get better after today 🙂

Crooked Bowing? Tape!

I found this awesome way to make my students bow correctly… Tape! It’s an age old trick that I never paid attention to because I didn’t think I needed it, but it works wonders! Put a piece of tape about 1/4 from the tip and 1/4 from the frog and forbid your student from shifting the bow until they pass the tape. I used this technique yesterday just to try to make my student use a full bow, and it worked! In the process, it also forced him to straighten out his bowing! Man, if I had known this before, I would have everyone put tape on their bows!

It’s Raining it’s Pouring

I never update…. I should more often I guess…

So I’m sitting here in the student center waiting for time to pass by. I have to work the counter today, which is during break time. So basically, I’m stuck here til the last break.

Yesterday, it rained and it poured. I was drenched. After church I was still drenched. We went shoe shopping after and I was still drenched. The debate yesterday was awesome. Andrew kind of embarrased me a little, but it’s okay, it was funny. Jay did a great message after. He never ceases to amaze me.

And finally, an unspoken prayer request was answered 🙂

Big Question Answered

Ok. So I didn’t want to have to tell everyone this and make a big scene. I wanted everyone to notice this and just figure it out. But oh well. Yes, Andrew and I are dating again. It’s kind of a long story and I’m sorry for not telling anyone.

The second week of school has gone by and I still don’t have half my books yet. Which means I’ll have to cram in a ton of reading once I get them.

Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church in La Puente is having Evangelistic meetings this weekend with Dr. Hal Hightower and everyone is welcome to come. I’ll be singing special on Saturday.

Finally, an update

Sorry for not updating in forever. I guess I just got lazy. Anyway. Jireh’s violin school is up and running again. For more info, look at my violin lesson page on the left hand margin.

So it’s the second week of school now, and I think it’s gonna be a better semester than the last one. For one. I went down to 14 credits this semester, so I’ll have A LOT more time to study and more time slots open for violin lessons. I don’t have class on Friday so I think I’ll use that time to volunteer somewhere like LBA or ACA or somewhere. Secondly, a very good friend of mine is back 🙂 Less stress on the mind for that one.  Thirdly, but probably most importantly, I have a renewed mind and spirit on God and life, and I’m a lot more determined now, which help me out a lot considering the stuff that happened last semester:).

The Last Saturday of PBC 2008

Yes! The last week of school is coming up!

No! It’s the week of finals and projects 😦

So most of us stayed home studying for finals and had a healthy breakfast consisting of Cheez-its and Crunch and Munch (Yes, a successful form of sarcasm =]) There were 2 yard sales going on this morning: the PBC one and the ACA one. Natalie and I didn’t find much at the PBC one, but we got a ton of stuff at the ACA one:) Later, Hannah and I went to Barnes and Nobles to study and explored the mall shortly after. I got a huge stuffed mickey mouse at the Disney store for my brother’s Christmas present. I can’t wait to see his face when I give it to him.

Pastor Kirkland made reference to my blog yesterday. It was hilarious. Now that we know he reads all our blogs at least once a week, we’re all thinking he should get one =].

Winter formal was awesome. I went with Darrel, he and I are like twins. It was funny because when I was trying to make driving arrangements, I accidentally called Darryl DeRosas instead. You can only imagine the confusion, Ha ha. Pics are on Hannah’s blog.

I Just Learned How To Vibrato On The Open G String! *on the VIOLIN!!!*

It’s totally cool because in order to vibrato, you need your fingers. In order to vibrato on a note that’s on an open string, you need to use your fourth finger (in first position) on the string before that. Since G is the lowest string, you can’t vibrato on it. Or so I thought. Dr Gordon told me to do it and I was like Dr. Gordon, that’s impossible! Then he showed me how to do it and I was like… whoa, that is so cool! I know most of you aren’t gonna get what I’m saying, but I just thought I’d let everyone know what I’m sooooo excited about =)

P.S. Renae just called and said I needed to be a bit more specific… I’m taking about my violin… THE G STRING ON THE VIOLIN!!!!
